Director Child Care Center

I have been in Preschool and Children’s work for 25 years.  I have served as coordinator and assistant director in several churches.  When I came to Soldier Creek in 2000, it was like coming home.  Everyone was so friendly and accepted me and my family with open arms.  When I arrived here at the church, our weekday program had 18 children enrolled.  We now have 83 children.  We are blessed by each of these families and continue to minister to them.  We have begun an AWANA program and a ministry to the teachers of Soldier Creek Elementary.  We also have a tutoring program for the children at Soldier Creek Elementary.  Our senior citizens come on Tuesday and listen to young readers practice their skills.

I was saved at a young age but realized later that I needed to turn everything over to God so in July 1980 at Starlite Crusade I gave my heart to Jesus and the journey began.

I have wonderful husband, Chuck whom I have been married to for 34 years.  We have 2 great daughters, Melissa and Marcy.  Both girls are married, Melissa to Brad and they have 2 daughter, Skylar Allison and Landry Savannah, Marcy is married to Matt and they have my only grandson, (so far) Matthew Lee and a grand daughter Allie Rae.

Youth Stuff

mark

My wife, Lori, and I first visited Soldier Creek over six years ago.  We immediately felt like we had found our church home.  After being visited by Pastor McDade we felt called by God to join the church.  I was asked to substitute teach for our Sunday school class, and was later asked to become the teacher.  Little did we know that God was preparing us for a walk of faith, when I was diagnosed with brain cancer in August of 2007 and was given only six months to live. The membership of Soldier Creek faithfully lifted my family and me up in prayer as God provided us with strength and comfort. God answered our prayers, and I was back to work two weeks before I was supposed to be dead.

I am a bi-vocational youth pastor, which provides me many opportunities to minister during my time working as a Midwest City Police Officer, where I have been employed since February 1990.  Currently, I hold the rank of Lieutenant, and I am assigned to Shift 3 (night shift) of the Field Operations Bureau.

Since my experience of God’s healing power, He has provided me with the opportunity to share my testimony with numerous churches and civic organizations.  In April 2009, after serving as a youth sponsor and on the Youth Pastor search committee, God called me to “put my name in the hat” to be considered for the position.  The church extended the call to me, and I took over the Youth Ministry at Soldier Creek two months before Falls Creek 2009.  God’s Holy Spirit moved through our cabin that week, calling many of our students to give their hearts and lives to Jesus Christ.

God has since moved my passion from law enforcement to youth ministry.  The students of SoldierCreekBaptistChurch are such a blessing to me, and I am honored that the church places their trust in me to guide these great kids towards spiritual maturity. God has also given me the opportunity to play guitar and sing in Soldier Creek’s praise and worship band, “Called to Serve”.

Family:      Lori and I will celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary on November 9th

 Children:    Matt (17), Nick (14), Jacy (14), Abby (13), Garrett (3), Baylee (2 weeks).

Education: B.S. in Criminal Justice Management & Ethics (minor in Biblical Theology)
