My wife, Lori, and I first visited Soldier Creek over six years ago. We immediately felt like we had found our church home. After being visited by Pastor McDade we felt called by God to join the church. I was asked to substitute teach for our Sunday school class, and was later asked to become the teacher. Little did we know that God was preparing us for a walk of faith, when I was diagnosed with brain cancer in August of 2007 and was given only six months to live. The membership of Soldier Creek faithfully lifted my family and me up in prayer as God provided us with strength and comfort. God answered our prayers, and I was back to work two weeks before I was supposed to be dead.
I am a bi-vocational youth pastor, which provides me many opportunities to minister during my time working as a Midwest City Police Officer, where I have been employed since February 1990. Currently, I hold the rank of Lieutenant, and I am assigned to Shift 3 (night shift) of the Field Operations Bureau.
Since my experience of God’s healing power, He has provided me with the opportunity to share my testimony with numerous churches and civic organizations. In April 2009, after serving as a youth sponsor and on the Youth Pastor search committee, God called me to “put my name in the hat” to be considered for the position. The church extended the call to me, and I took over the Youth Ministry at Soldier Creek two months before Falls Creek 2009. God’s Holy Spirit moved through our cabin that week, calling many of our students to give their hearts and lives to Jesus Christ.
God has since moved my passion from law enforcement to youth ministry. The students of SoldierCreekBaptistChurch are such a blessing to me, and I am honored that the church places their trust in me to guide these great kids towards spiritual maturity. God has also given me the opportunity to play guitar and sing in Soldier Creek’s praise and worship band, “Called to Serve”.
